Iraq Business News –
The Iraqi government announced on Monday that it had decided to allow mobile phone companies operating in the country using the frequencies of 3G after years of promises and appeals by mobile phone users.
It is still not clear how to license 3G frequencies or how to sell it, as the statement of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers did not disclose further details or the date for the implementation of the resolution.
The statement, which was received by “Shafaq News” said that “the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers announced the approval of granting the mobile phone companies operating in Iraq the right to use frequencies of the third generation (3G).”
He added that “the purpose of approving the use frequencies of 3G is to provide services with high quality.”
The big three mobile phone companies in Iraq have complained for years that the government is not moving fast enough to allow them to update their services, which still operates under the second -generation technology.
2G technology allows mobile phones to make and receive calls and text messages and web browsing while the 3G dramatically increases the display capabilities of networks and allows users to access the most complex sites quickly.
3G technology for mobile phones insures data and applications used by the Apple iPhone company increasingly by the users of smart phones. And gives users the ability to take advantage of a wide range of services that go beyond calls and text messages.
Services received by mobile phone users in Iraq is limited to the second -generation technology, despite the proliferation of mobile phones by up to seventy percent.
Customers can choose between Zain Iraqi branch of the Kuwaiti operator , which carries the same name , Asiacell which owns most of the shares of Qatar Telecom, or Korek company owned by Kurdish businessmen.
