Iraq – Farm Experts Train in Australia

Twenty senior extension specialists with the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture this week completed an advanced program in agricultural training in South Australia.
Rural Solutions SA provided the training, which was funded by AusAID as part of the Federal Government’s support towards the reconstruction and development of Iraq’s agricultural sector.
Agriculture Minister Michael O’Brien said the group arrived in Australia on May 1 and will return to Iraq on Saturday (June 25).
A graduation dinner was held on Wednesday night.
“I am pleased to extend the hand of friendship on behalf of all South Australians to our visitors from Iraq,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This practical training is an excellent example of international aid being applied in a constructive way, through building the capacity of Iraqi citizens themselves.
“Rural Solutions SA is rapidly becoming a provider of choice for international agricultural training programs funded by Commonwealth and international agencies.
“This particular program is currently receiving excellent media coverage in Baghdad, promoting both the training program and SA.”
Rural Solutions SA is a business unit within PIRSA. It delivers a range of projects, consultancies and services to customers in Australia and overseas.
“Rural Solutions SA consultants have, and continue to provide on-ground training and development activities in a number of Middle Eastern countries,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The 20 Iraqis are employed by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture in occupations that deal with introducing better farming practices to farmers to improve food supply.
